JAIPUR: A 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped on the Ajmer-Dadar Express by an inebriated Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) early on Saturday morning.
The victim, a resident of Abu Road, is the daughter of a retired railways employee. She was travelling alone in a general coach from Ajmer to Abu Road.
"She boarded the train around 7.15 pm on Friday. Onboard, she met TTE Dinesh Dutta Mishra, who was off duty. But, since both knew each other, Mishra offered her a berth in AC-III coach. The duo shifted to the AC coach at Phalana Junction station where the accused raped her," said Veerbhan Ajwani, SP, GRP.
"Later, the passengers in the coach came to know about the incident and handed him over to the GRP police at Abu Road Junction station," the officer said.
"We have lodged a case against the accused under Section 376 of IPC. The medical examination of the girl has been conducted," the SP said.
The railway authorities have condemned the incident. Chief public relations officer, North Western Railways, Lalit Bohara, said, "It is a highly condemnable act. While the law will take its own course, we have dismissed him from the services immediately after he was caught by the GRP police."
The on-duty TTE Amar Singh Rathore also faced the music for not being on the train when the incident happened. "The TTE identified as Amar Singh Rathore was supposed to complete his duty at Abu Road station, but it was found that he got off the train at Phalana station," said GRP sources.
"He has been suspended following laxity in discharging his duties and a departmental probe has also been initiated by the railways," Bohara added.
Earlier this week, a woman passenger on Chennai-Jaipur Express had complained that her gold chain was snatched by two miscreants. The woman along with other passengers were able to nab one of them, and later handed him over to the GRP police.
